West Lakeview Neighbors (SPN and WLVN)
West
Lakeview Neighbors represents the residents of the unique and vibrant
neighborhood in the heart of Lakeview. WLVN Boundaries include: Addison
on the north, Belmont on the south, Racine on the east, and Ravenswood
on the west. The group addresses zoning, traffic, liquor license,
sidewalk café and other issues affecting the neighborhood and advises
the 44th and 32nd Ward Aldermen. In Fall
2008, SPN and WLVN merged into one group.
Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of odd months at 7:00 pm at either the Lincoln/Belmont public library at 1659 W. Melrose or Mystic Celt, 3443 N. Southport to discuss and review issues affecting our neighborhood. For a complete schedule of meetings please check the website, www.wlvn.org. For more information, please contact the President of the West Lakeview Neighbors, Ann McCabe at ann@annmccabeinc.com or visit www.wlvn.org. Our neighborhood is mixed use with a large congregation of commercial space on Lincoln and Ashland, a mixed-use street on Southport, and residential streets that make up the difference WLVN includes the Lincoln-Belmont Chicago Public Library, the Lake View YMCA on Marshfield and Roscoe, Gross Park (1700 block of Henderson), St. Luke’s Church and School, and St. Andrew’s Church and School, and Hamilton School. WLVN will soon achieve a long-standing goal - a park and play lot on the west side of Lincoln at Addison, Klein Park. WLVN also supports the renovation to Sheil Park at the intersection of Southport and Cornelia. In the last year 2007-'08, we continued to address development, sidewalk café and liquor license issues and adjusted to 383 residential parking expansion. In addition our Planning and Development Committee reviews proposed development projects and provides input and recommendations to Aldermen Tom Tunney (44th Ward) and Scott Waguespack (32nd Ward).
President: Ann McCabe Vice President: Stacey Spencer Paradis Treasurer: Doug Hurdelbrink Membership Secretary: Open Recording Secretary: Mary Slivon The largest development proposals facing WLVN in the 2006-'07 were Centrum’s proposed Lakeview Loft Collection at Ashland, Belmont and Melrose and Renaissance’s proposed senior-supportive living facility at 1501 W. Melrose adjacent to St. Luke’s. WLVN, SLN and others participated in a series of meetings with Alderman Tunney, his staff and the developers. WLVN approved Centrum’s proposal for a 7-story building with 2 floors commercial, about 120 condos and a park on Melrose. Both projects have cleared city zoning and planning committees. We continue to discuss the potential for a traffic study for Ashland and adjacent streets given the impact of current and imminent developments.
In addition, WLVN held meetings on McHugh Development’s three-building proposal on the Bert Weinman Ford site on Ashland with commercial across the first floor and a number of smaller development proposals. We expect the area between Addison, Belmont, Southport and Ashland to become residential permit parking from 6 pm to 6 am by July this year. We continue to monitor and review sidewalk cafes, the new park at Addison and Lincoln, and CTA Brown Line reconstruction and station closures. Aldermen Tunney and Matlak addressed our group several times during the year. Board members recently met with 32nd Ward Alderman Scott Waguespack.
