| Dear John,
Our community experienced one of the most severe
storms in recent memory last week. We lost many
beautiful old trees, power and cable lines are
down. Even our own Space Park (815-817 W Roscoe)
suffered some damage.
The 44th Ward Aldermanic office is working closely
with city departments and utilities to restore services
in our area. Given the severe nature of the storm
we are very fortunate to have no fatalities and only a
few minor injuries reported. City-wide early
reported numbers are:
- Tree Emergencies (Damage to Trees in Public
Way, Tree Limbs): 3294
- Traffic Lights Out: 224
- Light Pole Damage (Damage to City Street
Lights): 120
- Wires Down (Wires to City Light Poles
or Street Lights/Not Utility Co Wires):
243
You can help greatly by clearing the leaves, twigs
and small branches that may have fallen on your
parkways, sidewalks and yards. This debris can
easily clog up our catch basins and cause additional
flooding issues.
Please avoid all down utility
lines.
Please call 311 or the Alderman's office
(773.525.6034) with and NEW damage or issues.
They'll continue to track all calls received and monitor
the restoration and clean up in our ward.
We hope to see you at
our two Space Park clean-up's
in September (22nd and 29th - both at 11AM).
For more details and to learn the latest about October's
11th Annual Halloween parade, come to our TN meeting on
Wednesday, September 12th at 7PM at the LVCC
Office.

Halloween 2007
The Magic of
Halloween descends on north
Halsted Street this Wednesday, October 31, 2007.
You'll see wizards, witches and dragons at the 11th Annual North
Halsted Costume Parade sponored by Northalsted Area
Merchants Association.
The parade is completely free and all
the sponsorship proceeds benefit the construction of
Space Park (815-817 W Roscoe).
The parade will march along Chicago's
hottest entertainment street (Halsted from Belmont to
Cornelia) and is one of the city's most renowned
Halloween events. The parade draws thousands of
spectators and is a creative, fun and entertaining event
for the community. As in past years, we expect to
see costumes from garish to ghoulish worn by adults,
pets, and kids. The costume contest has been a
huge success and we anticipate imaginations to run wild
again this year.
Sponsors are donating cash and
prizes. Everyone is welcome to participate in
the parade. New this year, judges will select a
handful of top entries in various categories for the
audience to vote on the winner.
To get involved in the planning of
this event, come to our next planning meeting on
Wednesday, August 29th at 6PM at
Roscoe's. Volunteers and
sponsors
welcome. | |
