MONTHLY COMMUNITY MEETING: Improving Quality of Life
in Our Neighborhood | |
|
|
Dear John,
As promised, we have additional details about the
memorial service for Mary Head, Treasurer of Triangle
Neighbors and the person who arranged for our purchase of
Space Park. There will be a memorial service in her
honor at Space Park on Sunday, September 13th at 2PM.
We've included her obituary below.
As a safety remember: There is safety in
numbers. Ignoring your instincts is not worth the
risk. Don't be afraid or too shy to ask someone to walk
you to your car or home. Adopt a frame of mind that
allows you to recognize and avoid potential threats on the
street. John | |
REMEMBERING
MARY HEAD Born
in Los Angeles, California as Mary McWherter, to Mary Price
(deceased) and Robert J. McWherter (deceased). Later,
adopted, along with her brother Robert (Jr, Deceased), by
Nonnie (deceased) and Bebop (deceased), where they gained two
sisters: Denise and Shar. Attended Mary Mount High
School and later Seattle University. She then
moved to Chicago and married (later divorced; no children)
George "Ted" Head; police officer (deceased). She
found herself working at First Chicago (later Bank One); a
veritable archetype for women in that particular arena, for
that era, excelling within her profession, and amassing too
many friendships to count in the process. Retired early,
and at the top. Ample community leader, rescuer and mender of
both animals and people. Exponent and advocate of gay
rights. Active member of Triangle Neighbors/LVCC and a
staple of Direct Aid Chicago and Buck's Saloon. Lived in
the same house for over 30 years. Upon her death she was
single mother to Gary Head (partner Elizabeth Capua) and Eric
Zich. Aunt of Gentry McWherter and many more. An
immensely beloved friend of an incalculable spread. And
someone no one will ever, ever forget. She is
survived by those that she helped survive, and a toothless
cat. She is the world's greatest Noodle to Gary's son
Lynx. A memorial service will be held for her on Sunday,
September 13th at 2 p.m. at the park located at 815 W. Roscoe,
Chicago. All donations in her name should be sent
to www.arfhousechicago.org. |
