This Friday, the Cook
County Board will vote to increase sales tax by 2%. This
is unacceptable! Below you will find a list of County
Board members who will vote YES for the increase. We
need to contact them now and persuade them to change
their minds!
"Dear
Commissioner,
The increase in sales
tax by 2 percentage points is unacceptable. Sales tax
is an unfair and regressive tax that hits the poor,
unemployed and seniors the most! With sales tax
becoming 11% in the city of Chicago, many small shops
will close as people will either shop in the suburbs
or on the internet. Property values will decrease,
unemployment will increase and increase vacancies
along major streets will invite crime.
Please vote NO to the
increase in sales tax and find a more reasonable and
sensible way of balancing the Cook County budget for
2008.
Thank
you."
