Finally, thanks to everyone who participated in our recent survey on the Proposed Planned Development at Clark and Addison.  We'll distribute the results in our next newsletter.

Halloween: Two Weekends of Fun!

Halloween comes to Lake View both this weekend and next.

OCTOBER 25th
Halloween Hoopla at Nettlehorst School (3252 N Broadway) from Noon to 3PM with free candy, popcorn and hayride. Then trick-or-treat Lake View East Chamber Broadway businesses from 3PM to 6PM.

Trick or Treat at participating shops on Southport, from Belmont to Irving Park! ...Then join the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce for Trick or Treat Festivities on Southport Avenue, between Grace and Byron!  From 1-4pm, we will host Trick or Treat fun with Smarty Pants and Miss Dena, moonjumps, pumpkin decorating stations, games and candy! $5 per child suggested donation upon entry.

OCTOBER 31st
Begin your Halloween morning with CLVN and Friends of Agassiz and their Halloween Party at Agassiz School , 2851 N. Semoinary from 10-noon. Breakfast will be provided by Ann Sather's (nominal fee). There will be a costume contest and many other activities.

The Center on Halsted has a free, family Halloween Party from 1PM to 3:30PM.  LGBT Families can join in on the boo-tastic fun with haunting movies, not-too scary storytime for tots, halloween cookies made to order by ghosts and goblins with loads of games, tasty (& healthy) treats tossed in for good measure.

All kids are invited to participate in Trick or Treating on Halsted with Northalsted Businesses (Grace to Belmont) from 2PM to 4PM.  Costumed characters from Alice in Wonderland will point the way to participating merchants.

Kids and their parents are then welcome to join us from 4PM to 6PM at Space Park (815-817 W Roscoe) for more fun, games & special prizes!  Space Park will be transformed by Two Lights Theater Company into Wonderland for a Tea Party!

At 5PM, Triangle Neighbors will have performances on the main Halloween stage located in 7-Eleven's parking lot at Roscoe and Halsted.

At 6PM, before the parade kicks off at Belmont and Halsted, Jimmy John is hosting a "Big Wheels" relay race in which ten participating companies will dress up in their most ridiculous halloween outfits, race on the parade course and scarf down Jimmy John sandwiches - all to raise money for a charitable cause of the winning team.

Of course the parade is the main event with several thousand dollars in prizes awarded to a dozen winners between kids, pets, adults, couples and groups. To enter, you must register in advance FOR FREE from 4PM to 6PM.  Kids will register at Space Park; Pets will register on Roscoe near the Park; Adults, couples and groups register at SPIN Nightclub (800 W Belmont).
New Phone Dialing Procedures for Chicago

Effective November 7, 2009, all local calls will have to follow new dialing procedures; this means that all local calls in the (312 or 773) would be required to dial 1+ the area code+ telephone number.  If this new procedure is not used, your call will not be completed and a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again.

This change was brought about by the addition of a new are code of 872 to the same area served by both (312 & 773) due to the increasing demand for telephone numbers. Since more than one area code will now serve the same geographic region, 1+ the area code will then have to be used. This could also mean that Beginning November 7, 2009, new telephone lines or services may be assigned numbers with the new 872 area code.
