Sing a Long for the Park
Sound of Music Returns

The Music Box Theater supports IMAGINE Sheil Park Playground Renovation when the Sing-A-Long SOUND OF MUSIC returns to the Music Box Theatre (3733 N Southport) November 28-30, 2008.

Get out your warm woolen mittens and blue satin sashes.  The city is alive with SING-ALONG SOUND OF MUSIC! The evening begins with a live introduction in which your host will lead you through a vocal warm-up, judge the best costume competition and award prizes. (Costumes are not compulsory but they are highly recommended and you will be amazed at the inventiveness on display.) The host will then show you how to use your free goody bag throughout the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions (such as hissing the countess, barking at Rolf and, of course, cheering for Julie). Then, you sit back and watch the original 1965 movie in glorious Technicolor™ with the lyrics for all the songs on the screen, so you won't miss a chance to sing your hearts out.

Tickets are $12 and available in advance exclusively through www.ticketweb.com. Day-of tickets will be available at the theatre box office.
New Year's Run/Walk
Register by Dec 1st and Save $5

Kick off 2009 on a healthy footing at the New Year's Day 5K Run & Walk--Chicago's first official 5K running event of 2009! This iconic annual run/walk -- now celebrating its 24th year -- is a fave with Windy City sports enthusiasts!

An estimated 1,500 runners and walkers are expected to lace up for the run & walk that starts at the south end of Lincoln Park. The course route winds north along the lakefront bike path to Diversey Harbor before returning to the North Avenue Field House.

A portion of the run/walk proceeds will benefit the Lake View Citizens' Council. In addition, there will be a post-event party at Sedgwick's Bar & Grill (1935 N. Sedgwick) that includes the awarding of winner trophies and raffle prizes. This gathering will also include a complimentary drink to those 21 years of age and older (with ID) as well as non-alcoholic drinks for participants of all ages.

Wrigley Field Hockey

Local Resident Ticket Lottery

As you may know, Wrigley Field will play host to the Chicago Blackhawks on New Year's Day, January 1, 2009.  The Chicago Cubs have successfully negotiated for local residents to have a special allocation of tickets for purchase. Neighborhood protections will also be in place to address parking, traffic and other quality of life issues, including added personnel in the neighborhood.

Ticket prices were set by the National Hockey League and range from $75 for bleacher seats to $325 for upper deck - the seats with the best view. Since there are a limited number of tickets available, a lottery will be held for the opportunity to purchase these tickets. Residents who are interested in purchasing tickets must fill out and submit a registration form. There is no charge to register for and no obligation to buy a ticket. To register for your opportunity to purchase tickets, please visit: www.cubs.com/wcn before noon CT on Monday, December 1, 2008.
