What Are You Doing
This Saturday???
Join LVCC and The Neighbors Project:
"Do It Yourself"
Neighborhood Block Party
What: A hands-on
how-to event for throwing a block party in Chicago
When: Saturday, August 25th 1-4 pm
Where: Mystic Celt, 3443 N. Southport
Ave., Chicago, IL
As
part of its DIY Neighborhood event series, Neighbors
Project is partnering
with Lakeview residents, community
organizations and aldermen to show you
how you can host your own block
party. The event will be a hands-on fair on
partying in the street with your
neighbors using the food, furniture, drinks and fun
sold in your neighborhood to
support local businesses.
DIY Neighborhood: Block Party will
be a launch event for a first-of-its kind web-
based guide to throwing a block
party in Chicago at neighborsproject.org.
Anyone visiting the site will be
able to share their own block party tips or
download concise checklists to
guide them through the block party permits and
process.
DIY Neighborhood: Block Party is in
partnership with the Lakeview Citizens
Council and the Central Lakeview
Merchants Association, with the support of
Aldermen Tom Tunney (44th), Scott
Waguespack (32nd), and State
Representative John Fritchey
(11th). Space and food generously donated by
Mystic Celt bar.

What Are You Doing This Sunday
Morning?
Come participate in the Jewish
Graceland Restoration Project.
The Lakeview Citizens Council is
partnering with the Uptown Chicago Commission to clean
up the historic Jewish Graceland Cemetery. While the
middle two sections have been well manitained by the
Hebrew Benevolent Society, Jewish Graceland North and
South host nearly 25 years of overgrowth.
Established in 1851, the Jewish
Graceland Cemetery is located on Clark St just
south of Irving Park Rd near the northern
border of Lakeview. It is the final resting place
for approximately 3,000 people, including many of
Chicago's original Jewish settlers.
Volunteers will gather again this
Sunday morning, August 26th, starting any time
after 8:00 am until 2pm. Come for an hour or
several hours. Because the cemetery is so
overgrown, it is VERY shady, therefore working on
summer mornings should be relatively comfortable.
Plan on wearing long-legged pants and close-toed shoes,
as well as bug spray. Cold water will be provided
by the host organizations. Live Bait Theater,
located across the street, will make its restroom
facilities available. Please bring
your own gardening tools, including grass clippers, weed
wackers, hoes, rakes and yard waste bags. Clearly
label tools with your name - to help insure they
return home with you.
Last Sunday morning we were rained out. Still
several volunteers braved the rain.
See you Sunday!

Lakeview Citizens' Council Initiative Against the
Rising Crime in Lakeview
Dear
Friends,
I am sure you saw our
Rally either on Channel 2,5,7,9,32 or Telemundo, or read
about it in the Sun Times, Tribune, Booster or Gay
Chicago.
Yes, all the media
covered this important issue of having more foot and
bike patrol in the Lake View area. Crime, violent crime
is on the rise. Even though the politicians tell us
different, the every day citizen of Lake View knows
it and feels it.
Please click on the
petition below and sign it. We need to take 5,000
signatures to the Superintendent to ask for more police
in our area.
Forward this email to
your friends, family and co-workers and let's bring back
the small town values that Lake View enjoyed in the big,
beautiful city of Chicago!
Thanks...
Sincerely,
David Winner

Lake View Citizens' Council
